Island Spirit provides excellent classroom theory and real world practical application training on mono and multi-hull boats packed into 10 days of fun and adventure. I learned what I need to know about every aspect of safe and responsible sailing yacht rental and operation, trip planning, provisioning, knots, navigation by chart and chart plotter, VHF certification, emergencies at sea, sail handling, anchoring, docking, dinghy use, tides, meteorology, maritime law, boat engine/plumbing/electrical/cooking systems inspection and use, as well as a host of tips on how to enjoy every sail journey. The instructors kept the class entertaining and professional. Other than previous professional military education, I can not recall a better organized learning experience and the result, I have a valid license to skipper a yacht under 60ft anywhere in the world. Enroll today. You will not forget or regret this learning experience. Then go travel and use it. Have fun.
zero to hero best way to come from nothing and end up with understanding what it takes to travel by yacht Island spirit do it the right way with excellent instructors team good methodolgy positive smiling attitude and comfortable yachts a must do for any one who dream to sail
This course was unsatisfactory. Did not learn much at all. French instructor took a cabin while a paying female had to sleep in the salon. He should have used a crew cabin. Better to go RYA as they seem more professional.
I honestly had very high hopes for this sailing school. I took the Zero to Hero course in Phuket this summer, and it was a varied experience for me. I was expecting the course to be more academically rigorous than it was. We spent a significant amount of time going to shore and bar-hopping late into the night. I loved stopping in multiple places, seeing the islands, and checking out the local scene, but the amount of on-shore drinking felt excessive. Our course stopped at a reef for a snorkeling opportunity that sits at the top of my highlights for Southeast Asia, and I loved that there were paddleboards to rent from the Marina. Our accommodations on shore were really lovely. What dragged it down for me was feeling uncomfortable on multiple occasions being the only woman on board. Choices of music with lewd lyrics, comments about other women's bodies when we went ashore, a comment directed at me, several other instances that had me questioning why I had paid so much money for this course. There was also a disconnect with our instructor, and sometimes our questions seemed to be an annoyance. Overall, I'm glad I took a sailing course but for the cost and the promised professionalism, it fell short for me.
This is most luxurious and happening place to catch the yatch for party. Though it s very uncomfortable to walk from parking to ferry port in summer, …
The Zero to Hero course in Phuket was absolutely brilliant. Accommodation and logistics were excellent; communication before, during and after the course were wonderful; and most importantly the teaching was top-notch. We were given focused, detailed attention and were allowed to 'learn by doing' in a controlled environment. I'd highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to get started with their sailing.
He just canceled our booking. We had a confirmed booking with Gunnar Bojkovsky from the Island Spirit Sailing School for the Zero-to-Hero course. I informed Gunnar that I need 2 more days to get the money transferred and he responded "No worries". Then 2 days later Gunnar said he had "issue with boot availability" and our booking is canceled. Luckily, we didn't pay the hotel and flights yet...
I just completed the zero to hero sailing course in Pattaya. I really enjoyed it. The zero to hero gives you a very good insight into sailing and life aboard a boat and it is impressive, just how much information and training are crammed …
The course was informative and fun but the instructors made the experience a pleasure.
