Thai massage styles, explained

Traditional Thai massage uses assisted stretching and compression, done fully clothed on a mat — expect your therapist to use elbows, knees, and body weight. Oil massage is closer to what Western visitors expect: lighter pressure, table-based, good for relaxation over deep tissue work. Foot massage targets pressure points on the feet and lower legs, usually 30-60 minutes, a good low-commitment first visit. Aromatherapy/oil combines oil massage with scented oils chosen for mood rather than muscle work. If you have a specific ache, say so before you start — a good therapist will adjust pressure and technique, a rushed one won't ask.
